The Construction Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that a construction site or project adheres to all safety regulations and standards, minimizing risks, and creating a safe working environment for all employees. Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement Safety Policies
- Develop comprehensive safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure that all safety policies are communicated effectively to the workforce.
- Regularly update safety policies to reflect changes in regulations and industry standards.
Conduct Safety Inspections and Audits
- Perform regular safety inspections of the construction site to identify potential hazards.
- Conduct safety audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
- Document and report findings from inspections and audits, and recommend corrective actions.
Provide Safety Training
- Organize and conduct safety training sessions for all employees, including new hires and subcontractors.
- Ensure that employees are familiar with safety equipment, procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Develop training materials and resources to support ongoing safety education.
Investigate Accidents and Incidents
- Lead investigations into accidents, injuries, and near-misses to determine their causes.
- Prepare detailed reports on investigation findings and suggest measures to prevent future incidents.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and insurance companies as needed.
Monitor Compliance
- Ensure that all construction activities comply with OSHA and other relevant safety regulations.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, and incident reports.
Promote a Culture of Safety
- Foster a culture of safety awareness and responsibility among all employees.
- Encourage employees to report safety concerns and participate in safety initiatives.
- Recognize and reward safe work practices and behaviors.
Non-Essential Functions
- Assist with other safety functions as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) certification is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
- Capable of lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and on different terrains.
The Construction Safety Manager will primarily work on construction sites, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, and other environmental factors. The role may also require working extended hours, including weekends, to meet project deadlines and respond to safety incidents.
