THE HISTORY OF RANDOLPH

Growth & Milestones

How did we become one of the premier commercial contractors in the United States? Through over half a century of growth and innovation. Our projects today span from hotels, office towers, and industrial spaces to multi-family complexes and retail design-builds.

1

Founded in 1958

The company was originally founded as William A. Randolph, Inc., outside of Chicago in Morton Grove Illinois. From the very beginning, the company built its reputation on complex and demanding projects across the Chicago area.

2

1960s

In the early years, Bill Randolph & Anthony Riccardi Sr. focused on water and wastewater treatment facilities, deep foundation work, bridge construction, and other critical infrastructure projects that helped shape the region.

3

1970s

The company expanded its expertise by partnering with Commonwealth Edison, Illinois’ primary electric utility. Randolph played a key role in projects across northern Illinois, including nuclear power plants, training facilities, and support buildings.

4

1980s

Bill Randolph & Anthony Riccardi Sr. grew the team and strengthened Randolph’s position in both infrastructure and civil engineering projects, while beginning to take on more building projects in the Chicago region.

5

1990s

With Bill Randolph’s retirement, Anthony Riccardi Sr. assumed the role of President. Under his leadership, the company broadened its focus, completing more building projects for public entities such as the State of Illinois, the City of Chicago, and municipalities across the region.

6

2000s

Randolph entered the commercial building market, taking on projects for private developers, corporations, and real estate investment trusts (REITs). This move diversified the company’s portfolio and deepened its industry reach.

7

2010s

Anthony Riccardi Sr received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Illinois’ Department of Civil Engineering. The company’s growth accelerated as Randolph expanded operations nationwide, serving both long-time partners and new clients. These projects have had lasting impacts, transforming communities across the United States.

8

2020 to Today

Leadership transitioned to Anthony J. Riccardi and Eric Handley, who assumed operational control and continue to guide the company’s expansion. Today, William A. Randolph, Inc. delivers a full range of projects—large and small—that not only meet client needs but also contribute to reshaping and revitalizing the communities they serve.
